Well what a day for a bike ride. Cool, sunny and dry. Perfect for Wicklow hills. After Mr. Hayden gave a club briefing on appropriate marshalling for the inter club league, the touring or step up group rolled for Enniskerry with a plan to press on to Kilmacanogue and home via Bray. Robbie and Charlie proposed an alternative so instead we stayed off busy roads and rode through Enniskerry, Powerscourt towards Glencree. With plenty of climbing on the cards we worked into smaller groups of 2’s and 3’s to suit levels.

The ride to Glencree was tight at times with oncoming cars but all in the group signaled hazards and did their turns at the front perfectly. A decent breeze whipped up as we rose towards Glencree as the shelter of trees made way for low brush and Wicklow hedgerows. We were aware of plenty of bikes descending towards us as we climbed. Robbie was spotted by a few of his buddies as we clipped onto the Glencree road where we opted for a coffee stop in the Centre in Glencree. Our previous coffee stops usually involve an energy bar at a Maxol in Sallins! This time it was sausage rolls, pots of tea, strawberry jam and scones with cream! Very civilized.

Still we had a few more drags and a quick descent down via St Columbas School still ahead so the luxury pitstop did not over run. Plenty of Orwell Ladies in the coffee shop too. On towards Stocking Lane and a decent headwind we hit the decents back to Marlay and concluded by 12.30 at Parkvale.
